3 Tips For Experiencing Ease on Thanksgiving
With Thanksgiving coming up next week, it’s a great time to share 3 tips (plus some delicious recipes) with you.
These tips will help you support your physical, mental, and emotional health (because all of these parts of your health matter and are interrelated).
1. Start with your emotional health and the rest will follow.
How can you create feeling more ease this holiday? I know that we don’t usually think of those words in the same sentence: ease and holidays? Are you kidding?! But I’m not kidding. What we experience has everything to do with the intentions that we set and commit to creating. By taking the time to acknowledge how you’d like to feel, how you are feeling, and what will support those two to match, you begin to put that reality into action.
Maybe what you’d like to experience is connection. There are many ways to feel connection: traditional family meal, Friendsgiving, volunteering or helping people in need, creating something beautiful to share with others (floral arrangement, a song, food), spending time in nature…these are all so different and yet, they are all ways to connect.
If you are wanting to experience ease on Thanksgiving, consider what would help you create that feeling. Ease is an internal state. You can tap into that feeling and experience it without lifting a finger. Consider what would help you to tap into it. For me, it’s shifting my focus, regulating my breath, and then using my body memory to re-create that feeling…it’s possible to do this while cooking, sitting with family, going on a walk, washing dishes…consider how it might feel to you on Thanksgiving day to create a feeling of ease throughout the day. It’s an amazing gift to your nervous system, your mental emotional health, and to those around you.
2. Plan out and prioritize your nonnegotiables.
Whether it’s sleep, making sure you eat protein before drinking or eating something sweet/starchy, or something else that you’ve learned is critical for your wellbeing, do your best to prioritize it. I know that I need to move my body every day, but there’s a ton of flexibility in how that happens (indoors, outdoors, slow, fast, planned workout, spontaneous dance party…it’s all good for me!). I know that I need to get to bed at a decent bedtime or I will be cranky and have lower energy. I’ve listened to my body for many years and I’ve noticed the patterns that are worth repeating (and those that aren’t). You probably have too. So prioritize those habits that will make a positive difference.
3. Reset often.
And lastly, take breathing breaks and space as needed. Creating ease and managing stress isn’t a “one and done” thing. We need to reset often. Sometimes resetting is as simple as taking a few slow, deep breaths. Sometimes we need to exercise, play a game, laugh, or get out in nature. There are many tools you can use to support yourself (click here and here for more of my top recommendations).
I hope that you put these tips into action. I know the value of good, healthy habits. They are truly life changing and my passion is to work with people like you whose health symptoms–like gut/digestive issues, excess weight, low energy, and skin & sleep problems–are getting in the way of you living life fully and with a sense of freedom in your body. Helping you to build your health allows you to enjoy your life more fully and bounce back from challenges more quickly.
Bonus tip!
Another tip I have for you today is to try upgrading any of your holiday menu items that aren’t healthy. Here are some delicious options:
- Garlic almond green beans
- Mashed cauliflower
- Bec’s Winter Salad
- Gluten free apple crisp
- Pumpkin custard…one of my absolute favorites!
Until next time, I’m wishing you unstoppable health and a wonderful holiday!
