The Hair Benefits of Castor Oil

Last week, I shared 3 free and simple tools to help you boost your immune system and protect you against coronavirus. In case you missed it, you can read it here.

And if you have been following my newsletters, I discussed in one of my previous issues how castor oil is great for your gut and in easing constipation (check it out here).
 
Now, I’d like to give you more reasons to love castor oil!


 
Castor oil is the oil extracted from the seeds of the plant Ricinus communis. The seeds or beans of the castor plant contain ricin, a toxic enzyme. This is why if you’re familiar with some proverbs or famous quotes, they refer to the castor oil plant as something dreadful or dangerous.
 
But worry not! Castor oil undergoes a heating process that deactivates this toxic enzyme so that we can safely use and enjoy the full benefits of castor oil.
 
In fact, the use of castor oil dates back to ancient Egypt when it was used as fuel in lamps and as a natural remedy for common ailments like wound healing, arthritis, and acne.
 
Even now, castor oil is still incredibly popular. In addition to its benefits to the gut as I mentioned before, castor oil has been a staple in natural beauty products and here’s why.
 
For your hair and scalp, there are three reasons why you should start using castor oil now.

Castor oil balances your scalp pH.
 
When the pH of your scalp is highly acidic or too alkaline, bacteria and fungi will start to thrive and that can create a lot of trouble for your scalp and hair–leading to an itchy scalp and dandruff.
 
Castor oil is super rich in ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid that helps balance the pH of your scalp, restores the oil in your hair, and promotes healthy hair.
 
Castor oil supports hair growth.
 
When you apply castor oil to the scalp, it penetrates down in your follicles and nourishes them, thereby promoting hair growth. It’s also known for reducing hair loss or “hair fall”.
 

For the purpose of growing your hair, try applying 2-3 tablespoons of castor oil to your scalp and leave it for 20 minutes. Afterward, rinse with an organic all-natural shampoo.
It is recommended to do this at least twice per week and optimally 3-4 times per week for a minimum of 4 weeks.
 
Castor oil as a hair conditioner!
 
Castor oil is a great natural alternative for a hair conditioner. It moisturizes your hair and resolves the issues from the chemicals of other hair products. So it transforms your hair from the inside out, making your hair look thicker and richer.
 
After toweling your hair dry, apply a small portion of warmed castor oil into your hair (ends), making sure you cover each strand. Do this 1-3 times per week.

Replace fear with this!

As many of you know, I have long since been an advocate for boosting immune health, gut health, energy levels, and mental-emotional wellness through HeartMath stress resilience tools. Now more than ever, we have to “self-regulate” our stress levels to be able to survive (and thrive) during this tumultuous time. 

How we act over these next weeks and months will have a huge impact on our lives and how we are able to look back on what feels pretty darn overwhelming right now.
